Behavioral Program

Attitude Adjustment Series/Gang intervention

This series helps pre-adolescent participants to recognize, address, and change negative behaviors that increase the likelihood of their entering the juvenile justice system. This series will also address why female gangs are a strong focus of female relationships. Through the attitude adjustment/gang intervention series participants learn how to incorporate life skills and behaviors necessary to remain outside of the juvenile justice system. YLOT’s program activities empower the females to address past hurts and reduce their negative effects in seeking resolution and forgiveness. These activities promote positive self-awareness and heighten self-esteem that can lead to more well-balanced physical, mental, and emotional health. We accomplish this by sponsoring monthly outings to various recreational and cultural activities, and through individual counseling and group workshops that are conducted 4 day a week and every other weekend outing. Workshop and individual counseling session topics include anger management, positive family interaction, daily problem solving, and gang prevention.

Health and Wellness

The goal of this activity is to reduce the risk factors and behaviors that directly relate to teen pregnancies, sexually-transmitted diseases and drug abuse. We conduct individual and group workshops and counseling sessions in topics that include prenatal care, pregnancy prevention, general gynecology expectations, drug abuse, and positive mental health strategies. Licensed counselors and social workers and undergraduate students from area colleges assist in these activities.
